Carlo D’Anselmi’s practice is characterised by vividly coloured figurative compositions that merge interior and exterior spaces, drawing on art historical references and symbolic imagery to explore themes of desire, perception, and the body. His work often combines heightened colour palettes with carefully staged scenes, creating a tension between narrative clarity and surreal distortion.
In Weapons of Love (2023), a central figure interacts with a series of suspended apples within a domestic setting that opens onto a verdant landscape. The presence of archers beyond the window introduces a subtle narrative tension, while the repeated motif of the apple evokes associations with temptation, knowledge, and vulnerability. Through the interplay of saturated colour, symbolic elements, and layered spatial perspectives, D’Anselmi constructs a dynamic composition that reflects on intimacy, control, and the complexity of emotional experience.
