Tagreed Darghouth’s practice engages with figuration and symbolism to explore themes of conflict, mortality, and the fragility of human existence. Her work often reflects on socio-political realities, incorporating expressive painterly gestures and layered surfaces that evoke both personal and collective histories.

In Skull (2011), the central motif of the skull is rendered with a raw, gestural intensity, emerging from a textured ground punctuated by drips and marks. The contrast between the solidity of the form and the fluidity of the surrounding surface creates a sense of instability, reinforcing the work’s meditation on impermanence. Through this restrained yet powerful composition, Darghouth evokes a universal symbol of mortality while situating it within a contemporary, expressive visual language.
