£6,950

Provenance: Charim Galerie, Vienna; acquired from the above by the current owner, 2021.

Eva Beresin’s practice is grounded in expressive figuration, drawing on autobiographical impulses and everyday encounters to explore themes of identity, vulnerability, and emotional intensity. Her work is characterised by gestural brushwork and a deliberately raw handling of paint, often embracing distortion as a means of conveying psychological depth.

In Leave me Alone (2021), the close-up depiction of a figure interacting with a small dog creates a charged and ambiguous moment, oscillating between intimacy and discomfort. The thick, impasto surface and vibrant contrasts of colour heighten the immediacy of the scene, while the blurred and fragmented features of the figure suggest a state of emotional tension. Through this visceral painterly language, Beresin captures the complexity of human relationships, where affection and unease coexist.
