Eva Beresin’s practice is rooted in expressive figuration, drawing on autobiographical elements and everyday scenarios to explore themes of identity, domestic life, and the human condition. Her work is characterised by gestural brushwork and a raw, unfiltered approach to the body, often embracing distortion and exaggeration as a means of conveying psychological intensity.
In Between Breakfast and Dinner (2021), a reclining figure occupies an intimate interior populated by personal and symbolic elements, including a small dog and framed images on the wall. The vibrant, saturated palette and loose application of paint create a sense of immediacy, while the fragmented composition suggests a narrative unfolding between moments of routine and introspection. Through this interplay of humour and tension, Beresin captures the complexities of everyday life, rendering the familiar both intimate and unsettling.
