Brittany Miller’s practice centres on figurative painting, using line, repetition, and pattern to construct psychologically charged interior scenes. Her works often depict solitary figures within flattened, decorative spaces, where the boundary between environment and body becomes fluid, reflecting themes of introspection, isolation, and emotional tension.
In Babel (2021), a reclining figure occupies a patterned interior, rendered through a dense, almost obsessive accumulation of marks that dissolve form into surface. The surrounding space—composed of vertical, tree-like structures and layered textures—creates an ambiguous setting that oscillates between interior and landscape. Through this interplay of figure and ground, Miller evokes a sense of quiet dislocation, inviting the viewer to engage with the emotional and perceptual instability embedded within the scene.
