Arghavan Khosravi’s practice combines precise figuration with elements drawn from Persian visual culture, addressing themes of identity, gender, and the body. Working with acrylic and incorporating textiles, she creates layered compositions in which traditional motifs intersect with contemporary narratives, often exploring the tension between visibility and constraint.
In Anatomy of a Woman #1 (2019), the central female figure is rendered with striking clarity against a gold ground, her direct gaze confronting the viewer. The inclusion of the child, partially obscured within the composition, introduces a complex dialogue around motherhood, care, and fragmentation. Through the use of patterned fabric and segmented panels, Khosravi disrupts the unity of the image, suggesting both the construction and division of the female body, while reflecting on broader questions of agency and representation.
