Franco-Iranian artist Sassan Behnam-Bakhtiar’s oil paintings and photo collages are well-known for exploring his visionary and philosophical views on life and humanity. Derived from the artist’s personal life experience of post-revolution Iran, including the Iran-Iraq war, the works articulate a two-decade experience in an uncertain place and sensitive time of the artist's life.
Behnam-Bakhtiar paints in his signature style of textured scraped painting, representing layers of energy and feelings. He paints from one layer to another for several years to create complex works referencing a prosperous way of life, human evolution, the universal language, eternal feelings and Self. He evokes history, present and future, awakening a strong sense of experiencing positive emotions and transcendence, while accessing his audience's psyche to draw out locked-in knowledge, intuition and human sensitivity.
Behnam-Bakhtiar's most recent body of paintings entitled Oneness Wholeness have been shown worldwide alongside works by Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz, Sigmar Polke, Hans Hartung amongst others. In 2018 he exhibited his works in solo shows at London's Saatchi Gallery and at the historic Villa Santo Sospir in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, entitled Oneness Wholeness with Jean Cocteau.
Behnam-Bakhtiar has been featured in numerous television shows and publications such as RT, Monaco Info, France 24, Iran International, BBC, London Live, VOA, Tatler, Vanity Fair, Harper's Bazaar Art, Huffington Post, L'Officiel Hommes, Buro 24/7, Independent, Bloomberg, Art Review, Artsy, Artnet, Hamshahri, The Art Newspaper, Harper's Bazaar Interior, Harper's Bazaar Arabia, Nice Matin, Hello!, Canvas Magazine to name a few.
Sassan Behnam-Bakhtiar has been dubbed in 2014 ‘a man on a mission to inform the world of the true nature of Iran’ by Harper’s Bazaar art and ‘the multitalented renaissance artist of his generation from Iran who portrays a necessary alternative view on his native country’ by The Huffington Post.
Behnam-Bakhtiar's latest works have been selling with Bonhams since 2017 and Christie's since 2018, the house which holds the artist's world record at auction.
Behnam-Bakhtiar's works form part of many distinguished private collections internationally. The artist has exhibited with the biggest names of the contemporary art world from London & Abu Dhabi to Los Angeles & New York.
